JANE AND DAN AT THE END OF THE WORLD

In this refreshingly comic and unexpectedly poignant story, Jane, a mother of two and frustrated novelist, and Dan, her husband, are enjoying an anniversary dinner at one of the world’s most exclusive restaurants, cliffside in California. Which might be romantic, except that Jane plans to ask Dan for a divorce. Her plan is foiled, though, when the restaurant is held at gunpoint by climate activists and then ... after that you’ll just have to read it to find out!

This book was a delight, with a winning combination of madcap humor and family drama. Be prepared to suspend disbelief and laugh out loud - beneath the hilarity, there’s emotional depth as Jane confronts what it means to feel ‘stuck’ in marriage, motherhood, and midlife. She thinks she’s chasing new excitement, but this crisis might reveal that the spark she’s searching for has been inside her all along.

The story’s restaurant has a world famous dessert on the menu that costs almost eight and a half million dollars, which got me wondering: what would an $8.4 million dessert look like? In my mind, it’s something involving chocolate, possibly hazelnut, and covered with precious gems - which is appropriate for this gem of a novel! In case you’re curious: the world’s most expensive dessert is the Frrrozen Haute Chocolate at Serendipity in NYC, which is $25k and infused with edible gold!
