THE DEAD ROMANTICS
Spooky and sweet, this ghostly romance had more treats than tricks and was a delightful addition to my October reading! Florence Day, a young ghostwriter of popular romances in NYC, is headed back to her home town after the sudden loss of her dad. The Day family’s business, a funeral home that was once their actual house, is where Florence must now plan her father’s final farewell. But it is complicated by the special ability that has vexed her since childhood: Florence can see and speak to the dead. And this time, the latest apparition to show up is her handsome, newly-deceased book editor, Benji. Can Florence come to terms with her loss, make amends with her complicated family, and resist falling in love with ... a ghost?
For fall books, setting is everything and I absolutely loved the adorable small town vibes mixed with charmingly creepy touches, like Florence’s creaky Victorian house, and the cemetery where she played hide-and-seek as a kid. And while the romance was cute, I enjoyed even more Florence’s relationship with her family, especially the touching memories with her dad, who posthumously orchestrates his own festive and loving funeral. A sweet supporting cast of characters and some unexpected plot twists made this an extra fun seasonal read!
For family meals out, the Days always head to the local Waffle House! So obviously I had to get this special ghost-shaped waffle iron, because this book must be paired with waffles and little ghosts for breakfast. So easy and cute for Halloween! Have you read The Dead Romantics?
