GRACE & HENRY’S HOLIDAY MOVIE MARATHON
NEW ADDITION to my all time favorite holiday book favorites list! Grace & Henry’s Holiday Movie Marathon was the December audiobook I couldn’t wait to listen to every day, and I’m missing it already. Grace and Henry are navigating the holidays without their respective spouses, who they lost in the past year. When their moms orchestrate an ambush set up, they forge a surprising friendship based on their shared love of holiday movies - the heartwarming result is one of my favorites of the year, not just the holiday season.

Reader, this is not a frothy romcom: there is definitely rom, and laugh out loud com - but grief and loneliness, too. And yet, it is not a sad or melancholy book at all. It is a bighearted, tender and very human one, with big ranges of emotions that are heightened at holiday time. I haven’t seen grief paired so thoughtfully with love and humor since I read The Guncle, and that’s high praise indeed. There’s a wonderful supporting cast of characters including two endearing kiddos, a dog named Harry Styles, and Henry’s brother Cal - theirs is one of my favorite adult sibling relationships I’ve read in a long time. Plus The entire book is a love letter to holiday movies, which as we know can be magical, hilarious, romantic and poignant all at once - much like this heartfelt story.

When I saw @vaughn ‘s popcorn bucket cookies on @nytcooking I knew they’d be perfectly paired with this book! They have movie candy (I chose M&Ms and KitKats), toffee bits, and buttered popcorn - so if you like your cookies AND your stories salty/sweet, original and full of unexpected surprises - this recipe and this book are for you. Can we get a sequel please @thenormannation ? I miss these characters already!
